October Events in Reno, 2024

Hey Friends,

I'm dead serious when I say that I'm running on empty right now.  Let's just say that a recent last minute family emergency demanded a 19 hr. drive in the span of only 4 days.

If you were wondering why my October guide is so late, there you have it, LOL.  Though I'm still tired out of my mind, nothing can stop me from sharing the love I have for this magical month, especially it's place in Reno.

To put things short, Reno friggin rocks on all levels when it comes to the holidays, and that's including Halloween.

We have all sorts of stuff going on all throughout the month of October, and even long before it starts.

I mean, I witnessed Halloween decor go up in stores mid-September & pumpkins come in by the load like they're gearing for a pumpkin takeover, but I'm not complaining.  If you're a die hard Halloween fanatic, you're probably on the same page as me when I say that you can never celebrate Halloween too eary, LOL.  Am I right?!

I digress.

What kind of Halloween action might you find in Reno?
How about free epic backyard haunts & Halloween displays tucked away in neighborhoods around town, made entirely out of passion, some so big that they even have sponsors and have made it onto the Television.  Ever wonder who buys all of the huge decorations at Home Depot and Spirit of Halloween?  Wonder no more.

Or how about an event where thousands of zombies raid downtown in search of craft brew from 41 of our bars?  I never knew zombies and witches had a symbiotic relationship, LOL.

Spooked out mine replicas, ghost stories around a campfire (with smore's), Disney Trivia (villain style), boo bashes ridden with villains all dressed up in wickedness, Halloween Karaoke, there's no end to the October/fall magic found here in Reno.

I'm publishing this post in a rushed manner out of urgency to help get the scoop out on these amazing events as soon as possible.  I've been to so many events listed below and can say that they're all special in their own way... a little something for everyone kind of case.

I'm highlighting this special event below because, #1, it's an amazing way to experience the wonderful flavors and vibrant colors of Indian culture, and #2, it contributes to a good cause.

EVENT HIGHLIGHT
-October 18 (6pm-9pm):  Diwaliwood - A Celebration of Indian Food, Art, & Culture @ The National Automobile Museum
Local businesses, sponsors, and Yelp Reno have all teamed up to organize a one-of-a-kind celebration centered around the beautiful and vibrant Indian culture, aiming to raise money for 60,000 meals for those in need in our community with our wonderful Food Bank of Northern Nevada

What to Expect:
*BOMB food - including food from the longest running Indian restaurant in town - Indiana Kabab & Curry, one of the main driving forces behind this event.  To learn  more about the other participants, check out the list I've included under the "events in detail" section down below.
*Lively Entertainment - I'm guessing the "wood"  in "Diwaliwood" is closely linked to Bollywood culture. If you don't know what that is, think Indian dances from Slumdog Millionaire.
*Drinks- Indian whiskey anyone?!
*Atmosphere - I can never ever get tired of visits to our National Automobile Museum.  It's nostalgic charm never gets old.

And guess what? Nayaab is a hot and new Indian restaurant that will also serve food  at the event.  Their food absolute FIRE!

Do you remember when I posted about Cosmo's a little while back?!  This restaurant is that kind of gem-hidden & HOT.  I saw Yelp Reno's post about Nayaab and knew I had to make it out to the Meadowood Mall (yes, you read that right.  Meadowood Mall just came up) to try their food, especially because Indian cuisine ranks high on my list of favorites foods ever.

Nayaab's FOOD
Flavors of India, Nepal, and Pakistan, with special focus on Kasmir cuisine.

*Halal food
*Vegetarian options
*Food comes neutral & without heat, but they can easily spice up anything for you according to your taste.

*Their vegetarian samosa could seriously win an award. The dough was perfection, and the filling was packed with flavor, perfectly balancing spices and consistency, all while holding together beautifully.
*Their naan is made in a legit tandoori oven - chewy, flavorful, & the perfect dipping item for their curries.  Did I mention that everything is made from scratch?!?
*Butter Chicken & Tikka Masala... you couldn't pry the fork out of my hand even if you tried.
*Mango Lassi - My only complaint is that I need this in a larger big gulp kind of size.
*Goat Curry... I absolutely love that this is available to begin with.  If you're a lover goat, here you go.
Bottom line - It's all soooooo good!!!

The best part of all was meeting the ones behind the food - owner, Ashu, & his sweet worker, Ram - both so passionate and such lovely people.

What makes our country special is the way we celebrate others while staying true to who we are.  We transcend boundaries simply by interacting with those from different backgrounds, and although we may look completely different from one another, there's no denying the fact that we all share common values, hopes, and dreams.

This event is a prime example of that-bringing together our community to celebrate the vibrant Indian culture while working towards a shared goal: raising funds to provide 60,000 meals for those in need. It’s about coming together, embracing diversity, and making a real impact, all while enjoying the rich flavors, music, and traditions of Indian culture.

How You Can Help
RSVP HERE and come & have fun at the event.  It's free for anyone with a Yelp account, but if you'd like to contribute to the cause, a suggested donation of $25 is all it takes to make this dream a reality.  I know the human mind defaults to skepticism these days- it feels like everyone always has an agenda, right?  But trust me, that’s not the case here. This event and this community are all about people genuinely trying to do good and make a difference for everyone.

***Did you know that Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, is an annual celebration that typically falls between October and November?  It celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, with millions around the world lighting oil lamps, sharing sweets, and coming together for joyous festivities.  How lucky are we to get to experience this celebration here in Reno?!

If you've made it this far, I so appreciate you.

Please check back occasionally as I update the guide with more events and fall activities.

If you'd like for me to add an event on here for ya, I'd be more than happy to.  Just send me a message on Instagram.

I hope you have the most magical fall season yet.
