Reno Spring Guide 2025: Easter Events, Spring Bucket List, Mother's Day Fun & All the Best Happenings

Snapped in front of Great Basin Food Co-op, 4/2025. This place is such a gem, perfect for hanging during spring (or anytime of the year, really).

Hiya Friends,

Have you ever seen a blooming tree on a partly sunny day, backed by snow-capped mountains, with birds singing in the background like they just flew in from a Disney movie? At random moments in spring (honestly, in all seasons, just with different magic in the mix), I’ll be driving, walking into a store, hiking, or running errands when I suddenly notice a scene like that right here in town. And every time, I pause and think: How does something this beautiful even exist?!

I know I’m always rambling about how special life is, but I really do believe it, especially here in Reno.

It’s kind of funny thinking back to when I was trying to come up with the perfect name for this blog. I thought sooo long and hard, going in circles, until I finally just gave in to the obvious: my deep love for Reno. I knew "Loving Reno" might not be the most strategic name for search engines, but I didn’t care. I wanted something that would hopefully attract likeminded people who feel the same way. And sure enough, that’s exactly what’s happened (thank so much for being here). So here I am, sharing all the beauty, excitement, and goodness that make up this city and region I adore.

Which brings me to this post that includes curated list of upcoming events in and around Reno, along with spring activities, recurring favorites, and more ways to enjoy this magical season.

Spring in Northern Nevada is one of the best-kept secrets. The weather is just right - not so cold your ears feel like they’ll fall off, and not so hot you feel like you're melting into a puddle (lol).  Not to mention the epic backdrops to experience around every corner.

Spring is short-lived, lasting only about two to three months, so it’s the perfect time to soak it up with outdoor fun and fresh-air adventures. Personally, I try to get outside as much as possible.  And yes, I drag my whole family along because it’s just that good for the soul.

If you love this kind of content, come hang out with me on Instagram @lovingreno775, where I share even more local gems and behind-the-scenes moments that may not have made it onto the blog just yet.

I'll be sure to update this guide with any events I may have missed or new ones that pop up, so be sure to check back.

I hope this guide helps you find joy, connection, and adds a little epic in your days.

With love,
Kat

Notes
*Some events listed below require reservations or tickets. Many fill up quickly, so I recommend booking as soon as possible to secure your spot!
*This post is purely a reflection of my love for our city and years of personal, firsthand experience. In other words, it is not sponsored.

My Favorite things to do during spring:
*Admire wildflowers - you won't believe how many unique wildflowers you'll see on Hunter Creek Trail (mid-late spring is best to catch this scene). A short drive to Carson City to the capitol building will be worth your while.
*Seasonal foods - Engine 8 Brewery has a delicious Spicy Conductor pizza that comes with candied jalapenos and a hot honey drizzle. Sip on the flavors of spring at Old World Coffee, Star Village Coffee, Coffeebar, Pangolin Cafe, & The Lodge.
*Riverside Farmer's Market is a favorite activity year-round, especially during spring when everyone starts coming out of their caves, LOL
*Exploring open trails before the summer heat sets in.  We have lots of  beautiful open trails in Reno to take advantage of - Bartley Ranch, Ballardini Trail, Damonte Park loop, Virginia Lake loop, Rattlesnake Moutain, to name a few.
*Gardening - did you know that cherry tomatoes are so easy to grow and are so fun to snack on throughout summer.  Visit our rad local nurseries: Moana Nursery, Old Stone House, catch the annual seedling sale at Great Basin Co-op
*River walks are so calming. They will make you feel so spoiled to be living here.  Good places to start - Barbara Bennett Park or Idlewild Park.
*A good read on a lawn &/or under a tree can be magical. Check out Barbara Bennet Park, Wilbur May Arboretum, and Galena Park (south entrance next to the bridge or Marilyn's pond), & Bower's Mansion
*Dust the bikes off and get moving - The Tahoe Pyramid trail follows the Truckee River and runs throughout our city. It's pretty epic.  Some great starting points with parking:  Mayberry Park, Idlewild Park, GSR
*Bird Watching - Rosewood Nature Study Center, Oxbow Nature Center, Sparks Marina, Washoe Lake State Park, Virginia Lake Park, & Wilbur May Arboretum are all great places to find some wildlife to enjoy.
*Movies - they can compliment the positive feelings of renewal that come with spring.  Have you watched these hits yet? - Pride n Prejudice, Big Fish, Into the Wild, A Walk in the Clouds?  My favorite theater is Galaxy Theater at The Outlets at Legends.  They have comfy reclining seats, food + beverages, & promos.  Also, can't help but watch new releases IMAX style.  Download their app (playstore) and sign up to be a rewards member for free and start earning some serious rewards, including free tickets.  Member Tuesdays = $6 movies!
*Easter festivities - join in on the excitement with the whole community.  We do holidays justice.
*Plan for summer trips - Yosemite National Park is only 3.5 hours away form us.  Can you believe it? Book camp sites at least 6 months - one year in advance.  Tioga Pass is the entrance that's closest to us.  Check the National Park's website for latest updates on when the snow clears and the pass opens up (usually late May or June).  Looking for a proper staycation?  Lake Tahoe is practically in our backyards.  Looking for big city life?  Sacramento is just 2 hrs. away, SF 3.5hrs.
*Baby Animal Days at Andelin Farm - Have you ever fed baby goats with bottles and held baby chicks? You'll be thrilled by these experiences. Recommended for all genders, all ages, and everyone, period.

Ongoing Jam Sessions at Mountain Music Parlor
Mountain Music Parlor | Instagram Facebook Website

The ongoing jam sessions at Mountain Music Parlor are truly magical experiences in Reno. Regardless of your skill level, whether you're a musician or simply a fan of soulful music and talent, everyone is welcome to join.

Here, you can learn, create music, make friends, and nurture the musician within you.

Set in a charming Victorian house and run by a rad and talented owner (she plays the fiddle), Mountain Music Parlor offers quality instruments for sale, a delightful gift shop filled with trinkets and treasures, and music lessons to enhance your skills.

It's a haven for music lovers of all kinds.

Wildfires
Last year, we were fortunate to experience minimal summer disruptions from wildfires. However, conditions can shift swiftly. It's unpredictable when fires might drive indoor confinement.  This is one big reason I love to seize every moment of spring.

Below, I've compiled events and locations that may be overlooked by a simple Google search for things to do in Reno this spring. Tickets and reservations fill up quick, so I recommend securing yours promptly for any events that catch your eye.

My Blog post about Andelin Farm
*My REEL from this year's festival

I’ve been taking my kiddos to this festival since they were babies (they’re now 6, 8, and 10), & it just gets better every year.  It was pretty surreal receiving an invitation to the farm I love so dearly.  Thank a ton to the Andelin Family for making our community so special, for inviting me over.  Hard work really does pay off.

I think I speak for many parents & guardians when I say: we just want the best for our kids. What that looks like can vary, but for me, it means surrounding them with joy, great role models, and safe spaces where they can stretch their legs and be 100% themselves, without constantly being told they’re “too much” or “being bad.” It makes a huge difference when I know there’s a place where they can just be. They get to learn, grow, make friends, and chase that magical, carefree feeling we all remember from childhood.

Andelin Farm has been around for about 16 years, and if you know them, you know they go all out every season. They’re famous for their epic fall festival, Corn Creepers, and Zombie Paintball, but their Spring and Summer festivals are just as magical (and way less crowded). If you haven’t been, I truly think it's the ideal place to grow lasting memories.

*The 🍦 & 🌭s from their trucks are super tasty.

From aerialists to acrobats, every act is a reminder that love is thrilling and worth the heartbreak. Welcome back to the circus of love’s absurdities—where the only thing more dramatic than the tricks… is the dating history!

Have you been to our incredible museum yet? If not, let me just say that it’s one of my favorite places to spend time in all of Reno. The space itself is stunning, with multiple levels to explore, and it's so much more than just a museum. It features a fantastic cafe, a theater that plays documentaries throughout the day, one of the best gift shops in town, a seasonal demonstration garden, and a rooftop that offers all the views and all the vibes.

Throughout the year, they host some truly amazing events, including their annual For the Love of Art fundraiser, which is such a fun event to attend. You can expect live entertainment, gallery tours, gourmet meals, a thoughtfully curated shopping experience, raffles, and more at the fundraiser.

Every Second Saturday, the museum opens its doors to the public for free and fills the day with special programming and activities. What an amazing opportunity to experience art, community, and creativity, and that's without spending a dime. I can’t say it enough: I absolutely LOVE this museum.

And if you're looking to dive even deeper, definitely check out their website for the full list of classes offered through the E.L. Cord Museum School.  Painting, ceramics, sewing, photography are only a few of many types of classes offered at the museum.

Easter at Heavenly is such a vibe. I’ve taken my three kiddos to this event about four times now, and the memories we’ve made over the years? Totally priceless. They stay fresh in my mind like they happened yesterday.

The drive from Reno to South Lake Tahoe is a scenic little road trip that always feels like a treat in itself.  Not to mention, South Lake Tahoe is a world-class destination. Tourist-filled or not, I’ll always be a loyal visitor. Its charm is just undeniable. Since Heavenly Village is the heart of it all, you’ll find endless things to do, tons of food spots to try, and nearby attractions that make it the perfect day trip (or weekend getaway).

Every time I’m in the Village, I feel like I’m on vacation, and not just because everything’s priced like one, LOL. It’s just such a lively, beautiful place to hang out. Even a simple stroll through the Village feels special. Now, take that vibe and add in an Easter egg hunt, some live music, a little exploring… maybe dinner and a movie? That’s a recipe for a magical day.

Notes
*Fire & Ice always offer and add-on breakfast with the Easter bunny before the hunt.  If interested, snag tickets in advance as it always sells out before the day of the event.
*Build-your-own bunny kit also usually available as an add-on.  Definitely worth doing at least once.
*The egg hunts take place on the grassy area right next to the gondola and Fire & Ice.
*The Village even has its own cinema if you want to catch a movie.
*If the main garage is full, there’s a parking lot across the street near Lake Parkway (by the cinema).

Bonus tip:
Check out the Sunday Matinee Magic shows at The Loft. Kids get in free (1 free per each paying adult), and the magicians rotate weekly, always talented and super entertaining. The Loft also has a cozy little lounge and bar upstairs, perfect for hanging & winding down. (They do take reservations.)

The walk from Heavenly Village (bottom right) to Lakeside Beach is nice and short.

Did you know that Genoa, located just one hour south of Reno, holds the distinction of being Nevada's first settlement?

I had the pleasure of discovering Genoa during their annual Candy Dance Festival a few years ago, and let me tell you, it's a quaint and charming town that’s definitely worth a visit. I’ve fallen in love with it, and I’m sure you will too.

Though small in size, its undeniable charm set against a breathtaking backdrop makes it a top destination, even on an ordinary day. You truly have to experience it to understand what I mean.

Just an hour from South Reno and only 25 minutes from Lake Tahoe, Genoa offers the perfect blend of history, character, and outdoor adventure. Whether you're visiting for a day trip or a longer stay, it’s a must-see spot in the area.

The White Rabbit Lounge provides a stylish and inviting atmosphere where guests can enjoy expertly crafted cocktails and a selection of quick bites before and after each performance."

-Descriptions from website

Kaileigh & Chase were so amazing at The Loft.

When I stumbled across the news that GSR is opening a brand-new magic theater, I was absolutely over the moon. Having seen the incredible & wondrous performers, Kaileigh & Chase, soon-to-be permanent magician hosts of White Rabbit Theater, perform at The Loft at Heavenly Village, I know firsthand just how captivating and unforgettable their shows can be.

There’s something so special, timeless, and universal about magic. It brings out wonder, joy, and that spark of childlike awe we all need a little more of.  While Magique, with its grand illusions & fashion, has done a fantastic job holding down the fort when it comes to magic in Reno, I think we all can all agree that there's definitely room for more wonder.

"This grand illusion show is like no other! Presented by the award-winning magic duo Kaileigh and Chase Hasty, “That’s Magic!” will leave you dazzled and amazed. This upbeat, interactive production is fun for all ages and packed with something for everyone. Prepare to be immersed in mind-blowing magic, featuring stunning dancers, and plenty of thrilling surprises. Step inside the White Rabbit Theater for an experience you won’t find anywhere else!"

Throughout the year, the Virginia & Truckee Railroad hosts numerous exciting event trains, including some highly popular ones like:

-The Polar Express (December)
-V & T Candy Cane Express (December)
-Pumpkin Patch Trains (October)
-Father's Day Trains (June)
-Mother's Day Train (May)

Scenes, commentary, vibes, bites & drinks, along with a dedicated staff that always goes above and beyond, are all expected on nearly every special train ride.

Virginia City, where the V&T Railroad is located, is a quaint and charming town that transports you back to the "Wild Wild West" with its wooden boardwalks, historic saloons, and cowboy history. I instantly fell in love with this small city during my first visit many years ago, and the railroad is a big part of that love, along with everything else that makes this historical town special.  I truly feel so lucky to have it nearby.

Riverside Farmer's Market
Idlewild Park
 2055 Idlewild Dr,
Reno, NV 89509

Riverside Farmer's Market is our year-round market, home to a wide variety of amazing small businesses, including services, farmers, food trucks, crafters, bakers, and other artisans.

During major events, Riverside Farmer's Market pulls out all the stops, creating an amazing atmosphere with entertainment for adults and children alike.

Mother's Day Boutique and Fall Festival are their biggest markets of the year, though every other market contains just as much magic.  It's really the village vibes that make this market appealing year-round.

At the upcoming boutique, enjoy live music from local musicians, participate in free classes, get the children busy with fun and engaging crafts, and treat your taste buds to an array of delightful cuisines, all while finding everything you need for an unforgettable Mother's Day celebration.

It's important to note that the market's home, Idlewild Park, is one of our biggest and most dynamic parks in Reno, worthy of a visit all on its own.  Just imagine adding a village market in the middle of all this natural beauty - magic.

Notes:

-I always aim to arrive early to events to secure the best parking spot, although there is a good amount available at Idlewild Park and the neighborhoods surrounding it.

-For those who plan on shopping, tote bags/buggies will come in handy.  Sometimes, the info. booth may have some bags for you to borrow.
-The market always does such great work with catering to different diets, which means that there's something for everybody.
-This market is all about supporting the community.  It prioritizes everything wholesome, all natural, organic, & most importantly - local.

Every Sunday
9am - 1pm

Reno’s year-round Riverside Farmers Market, created by the awesome folks at @premafarm, was built with one mission in mind - to give local farmers, crafters, and artisans a welcoming space to share their work with the community.

In the winter, there’s plenty of open space to soak up the sunshine, and in the summer, you’ll find shady trees, green grass, and a beautiful setting right along the Truckee River.

What I love most about this market is the incredible sense of community. It’s a place that truly celebrates local talent, from farmers and bakers to musicians, food trucks, and artists. The standards are high, the vibes are just right, and the support for small, local businesses is something really special.

Learn How to Ski & Snowboard at one of Our Nearby Local Resorts

***I'm including this info in the guide even though it's the end of the season, so you'll have everything you need to plan for next year.

You don't have to be a skier or snowboarder to appreciate the fantastic ski resorts near Reno. However, if you've never tried skiing or snowboarding, there's no better place to learn than here, with our numerous beautiful and convenient ski resorts.

Families with young children may find skiing or snowboarding to be a rewarding activity, as little ones often pick up the skills quickly.

I witnessed firsthand how much joy it brought my son and daughter during their first ski lesson at the start of the season. They declared it was the best day of their lives.

After taking a lesson myself, I completely understood their excitement. There's something magical about gliding down the slopes in a picturesque outdoor setting, especially when shared with loved ones.

Ski/Snowboard Lesson Recommendations for Kids and Adults

Discounts
Keep an eye out for special deals on passes for next season around this time. Many resorts offer them towards the end of the ski season.

Also, consider subscribing to resort newsletters to receive updates on special promotions and deals throughout the season.

Mt. Rose Buds lessons are so rad.

Other resorts to explore for more than just winter sports.

Palisades Tahoe (46 minutes from Reno)

Palisades is a year-round resort that has its own village featuring live entertainment, festivals, lodging, shops, restaurants, an incredible aerial tram ride leading to an Olympic museum, ski runs, a mini-market, and much more.

Additional activities available at the resort include snowshoeing, ice skating, tubing, roller skating during the summer months, and cross-country skiing.

For further information and a comprehensive list of activities, visit their activities & events page.

Heavenly Village Ski Resort (1hr 20 minutes from Reno)
Ice skating rink Heavenly Village. Private lessons available for an extra charge.

Heavenly Village stands as the premier ski resort in South Lake Tahoe, drawing in a substantial number of visitors year-round.

Known for its proximity to casinos, the beach (within walking distance), and a wide range of restaurants and shops, Heavenly Village is a favorite among tourists. However, locals also frequent the area for its lively atmosphere, stunning scenery, diverse culinary offerings, and live entertainment options.

The village is loaded with shops, activities, and dining spots.

While lodging is available directly at the resort, there are numerous alternative lodging options conveniently located across the street, providing guests with a range of choices for their stay.

Some of my favorite activities at the Village

What makes Northstar stand out:
- Convenient proximity to downtown Truckee, offering a charming strip of shops and dining options.
- A large ice skating rink for winter fun.
- An on-site cinema for entertainment.
- The ski resort hosts incredible events year-round, including a month long holiday celebration with DJs, fireworks, complimentary smores, and firepits, ice skating, and more.
