Pine-O-Mine Ranch #41 A Small but Charming U-Pick Apple Farm

2024 Apple Hill Visitor's Guide

Pine-O-Mine Ranch is one of the charming farms that make up the Apple Hill Grower's Association, a destination that attracts thousands of apple lovers every fall.

When I visit the hill, apple picking is always at the top of my list of things to do. My kids and I love the thrill of hunting for apples and tasting them right off the tree. There’s just nothing quite like a fresh-picked apple—so juicy that the sweet apple juice runs down your arms.

As a parent, I cherish the opportunity to show my kids where our food comes from and how much effort farmers put into nourishing us. Usually, we pick our apples at Denver Dan's #14, but this year we wanted to try something new, so we headed to Pine-O-Mine.

Upon arriving, we drove a short way in and were greeted by a bright red barn, surrounded by apple trees and a lovely pumpkin patch. While it’s on the smaller side, don’t let that fool you—it’s packed with charm.

The farm offers several popular apple varieties to choose from, including Fuji, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and Red Delicious. You simply grab a bag from the barn and head out to pick your apples, returning to get them weighed afterward.

After our apple hunt, we couldn’t resist trying the caramel corn from a nearby tent that we overheard others raving about. It was delicious and reminded me of Cracker Jacks from my childhood. The caramel corn is made by a family-owned business using their grandma’s recipe.  These kind of recipes are the best - withstanding the test of time, carrying the warmth of family traditions.

Pine-O-Mine also had hot food provided by Brawt Envy, and let me tell you, their sausages were fresh, juicy, and delicious. The guys cooking our food were super down-to-earth, making the experience even more enjoyable.

We had to indulge in the classic caramel apple milkshake, which never disappoints. Next time, I’m definitely getting the Apple Pie Milkshake—a blend of apple milkshake with a piece of pie mixed in. A worker told me how amazing it is, and I was sold right away.

With its beautiful scenery, tasty food, delectable desserts, friendly people, pumpkins, U-Pick apples, and plenty of photo opportunities, Pine-O-Mine has become a new favorite for our Apple Hill visits.

Notes
-Apple picking is all about timing and weather, so call ahead to check on availability and the best time to pick apples. The orchard is on the smaller side and can run out of apples quickly.
-Inside the barn, there’s a limited selection of apple goods available for purchase, including frozen pies, jerky, alcoholic beverages, apple cider, and nuts.
- Plenty of parking is available
- Depending on availability, there are various food trucks to check out.
- The pumpkin patch is adorable, making it a great spot for photo shoots, but there are only a few picnic tables and Porta Potties with handwashing stations available.

Andelin Farm- A Charming, U-Pick, Family Owned Farm that provides Lots of Family Fun in the Fall and Spring

8100 Pyramid Way
Sparks, NV 89436

(775) 530-8032

Andelin Farm in Sparks is one of those special places my family and I can’t get enough of, especially when it comes to our fall traditions. This farm isn’t just a spot we visit; it’s where we make some of our best memories.

You can tell right away that the farm is well-kept and thoughtfully run by people who genuinely care about making sure everyone has a great time. What I love most is how they’re always coming up with new ways to make each visit better than the last. This year, for example, they added a gemstone mining sluice and a chick experience—both of which have been instant hits. Plus, they put up some shade tents to help with the heat and even took a gamble on growing sunflowers for a U-Pick experience. Spoiler: it turned out beautifully!

A couple of years ago, we were one of the last families on the farm, and time just flew by because our kids were having so much fun. We realized we hadn’t ridden the hayride yet, so we asked one of the workers if it was still possible, even though it was late. The worker smiled and said he’d check for us. To our surprise, the owner, Cameron, came out with a big grin and was more than happy to take us around. He gave us a little history about the farm and chatted with us like we were old friends. There’s something really special about an owner who takes the time to make sure his guests are having a great time, even when the day’s wrapping up. Cameron’s hands-on approach is just one of the things that make Andelin Farm so amazing.

We keep coming back to Andelin Farm every year, and I’m always telling family and friends to check it out. Whether it’s the fall festivities, holiday fun, or the different seasonal events they have going on, there’s always something new and exciting at Andelin Farm. From the pumpkin patch and corn maze in the fall to the springtime baby animal days and summer sunflower festival, they’ve got something for everyone all year long. If you haven’t been yet, make this the year you experience the magic of Andelin Farm—you won’t regret it!

El Dorado Orchards - Beat the Crowds, Have a Picnic, and Take A Scenic Train Ride

2881 North Canyon Rd.
Camino, CA 95709

One fall,  I was soaking up those cozy autumn vibes, admiring the stunning scenery around me while searching for fun fall activities in Reno. Of course, Google led me straight to what I was looking for.

One of the top suggestions was Apple Hill, just a scenic two-hour drive from Reno. With over 50 farms nestled in Placerville, CA, it sounded like Disneyland to me—everything I could want for a perfect day out.

I’m a sucker for beautiful views, road trips, farms, and all things apple-related, so I knew this trip would be a win for my family and me. As a mom of three, I always try to plan ahead to ensure our outings go smoothly. I looked up which farms would be best for kids, and El Dorado Orchards popped up as a must-visit spot, offering face painting, delicious apple treats, a craft fair, and a scenic train ride.

El Dorado did not disappoint. On our first visit, the kids got their faces painted by a friendly young lady and enjoyed a train ride around two lovely ponds surrounded by vibrant fall foliage. The ride may not have been as long as we had hoped, but we still make it a tradition to return every season because it’s just that special.

This charming little farm is tucked away next to the busier BOA Vista and High Hill Ranch, making it a perfect escape from the crowds. If you’re looking for a place to picnic, relax, shop, and enjoy some apple goodies, I can’t recommend El Dorado Orchards enough.

Notes
-Family-owned and operated
-Hot dogs and hot sandwiches available for $6-$11
-Train rides were $5/person on our visit
-Though it’s a small farm, it packs a punch with a craft fair, hot lunch, apple treats, face painting, and train rides
-The scenery alone keeps me coming back for more
-They offer pies, brownies, caramel apples, cookies, cider, apple cider milkshakes, and jams, but no donuts—head to BOA Vista Orchards just a minute up the road for those.
-Plenty of tables and benches on grassy areas with tall trees providing shade, perfect for picnics
-Restrooms available
-Plenty of parking on site

Abel's Apple Acres #38- Acres of Family Fun and Apple Goods

If you’re not familiar, the Apple Hill Growers Association in Placerville and Camino, CA, is a favorite destination during October, known for its family-friendly farms, fresh-baked goodies, and gorgeous fall scenery. One standout spot among the farms is Abel’s Apple Acres.

This charming farm has it all: a cozy barn packed with pies, pastries, holiday decorations, books, and pantry items, plus hot food options for lunch. Beyond that, they offer plenty of outdoor fun like a maze, gemstone mining, picnic spots with benches and bug shelters, and a craft fair. The farm has a warm, old-fashioned farm feel that keeps me coming back to Apple Hill year after year.

What really makes Abel’s special are the unique treats and activities. Their award-worthy caramel apples are unforgettable, especially the apple pie caramel apple - a fresh picked apple dipped in caramel, white chocolate fudge, and cinnamon sugar. It’s one of those iconic treats that really captures the magic of Apple Hill, alongside their apple cider & donuts.

During our latest visit, I planned to take the kids to three farms but ended up staying longer at Abel’s because they were having such a great time, running around and sampling the apple treats. We left with our hands full after trying an apple donut, apple pie slice, caramel apple, and an apple empanada. Each treat was so good that I got thumbs up from the kids with every bite. Let’s just say, I wouldn’t dream of leaving without bringing home some of that apple magic.

For lunch, I ordered a tri-tip sandwich piled with meat and onions. It was fresh and lightly seasoned, which worked well with the condiments they had on hand. My kids were happy with their hot dog meal, complete with chips, crackers, a lollipop, and milk. Not every farm on the hill serves hot lunch, so it’s a good idea to check the Apple Hill guide ahead of time if you’re looking for a hot meal.

Notes for Visiting Apple Hill
-Best Time to Go: October can get very busy, so visiting on a weekday or as soon as the farms open can help you avoid the crowds. Late September/early November is also a great option for a quieter experience with minimal crowds.
-Bring a Cooler: If you're coming from out of town, pack a cooler to keep any goodies fresh for the ride home.
-Maze: Open on weekends only
-Gemstone Mining: Purchase gemstone mining bags at checkout near the caramel apples.
-Specialty Caramel Apples:  This farm has the widest selection to choose from.
-Photo Ops: Plenty of fun photo cutouts around the farm.
-Vendors:  A variety of vendors are available on the deck during peak times.
